Susan Ellis Weismer retired in 2021 after more than 40 years at UW-Madison, including 36 years as faculty in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders and an investigator at the Waisman Center, where her lab was funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  She was also affiliate faculty in Psychology and Educational Psychology.  She served as chair of her department and was an associate dean for the College of Letters & Science for more than a decade. Prior to joining the faculty, she held a variety of positions, including lecturer, research specialist, clinical instructor, and faculty associate. Her teaching and research focused on advancing our understanding of language and communication challenges in children with neurodevelopmental disorders. She especially enjoyed mentoring students at all levels as well as junior faculty. Retirement activities include reading, walking, mahjong, and spending time with friends and family, especially her four wonderful grandchildren.
